Record Attendance at Van Metre’s 15th Annual Five-Mile Run for Children’s Hospital
Local Builder, Sponsors and 891 Runners Raise $150,000 for Children’s
Ashburn, VA – March 16, 2007 – Van Metre Companies’ 15th Annual Five-Mile Run was marked by the highest-ever participation in the event’s history – 891 participants from all ages and skill levels came together at Van Metre’s award winning Broadlands Community to enjoy fitness, fun and beautiful weather all for Children’s Hospital. Held Saturday, March 10, at the Broadlands Nature Center, the event was kicked off with the Five-Mile Run and was followed by a Kids Run For Fun and the One-Mile Fun Run/Walk. Cash prizes were presented to the top three male and female runners. Congratulations to Sarah Spaulding, Cathy Pugsley, Monica Grillo, Gurmesa Kumsa, Patrick MacAdie and Steven Crane.
Immediately following the race, the Van Metre Companies invited runners and supporters to attend the first annual “Taste of Broadlands.” Refreshments from local eateries, awards and door prizes, such as Redskins tickets and a weekend at the Wintergreen resort highlighted this post-race celebration.
Since they first began sponsoring the annual run in 1992, the Van Metre Companies have raised over $1.6 million dollars for Children's Hospital Cardiology Fund and Children’s Fairfax Outpatient Center. At the first race in 1992, Van Metre raised $6,000. This year, with the help of their sponsors and runners Van Metre raised $150,000. Proceeds will go toward the construction of the Van Metre Companies Cardiovascular Operating Suite in honor of Dr. Frank M. Midgeley, for his outstanding service and dedication to Children’s Hospital. This state of the art cardiovascular suite will be equipped with the most innovative cardiovascular surgical space and top of the line equipment to better serve young cardiac patients.
